Officers in charge and ward development committee chairmen at the various primary healthcare centers in Tondi, Garon Masa, Yauri, Birnin Yauri, Dirin Daji, Kanya, Rikoto, Danko, Rafin Zuru, Dalijan, Masama, Mallamawa, Kalgo, Bunza,Kamba, Kangiwa and Sanwa communities of Kebbi State have ascribed attributed the successes so far recorded in their respective communities to the financial intervention and logistics support they get from KECHEMA.
While responding to questions from journalists on the implementation of the contributory healthcare scheme in their communities during a media assessment tour to facilities in the state, in- charge and ward development committee chairmen that are saddled with the responsibility of implementing and sustaining the program said they have been able to procure more drugs, increase laboratory tests, pay adhoc staff, construction of borehole, toilets, electricity, renovate doors, windows and carried out repair works in the facilities to improve service delivery to the vulnerable in their communities from the funds KECHEMA is making available to them every month.
They said before the contributory healthcare scheme was introduced to their community’s people were made to go far to get treatment for their sickness and ailments because they could not afford the service or it is not accessible.
In her response, in charge of Kangiwa MCH, Habiba Tukur Argungu said, Today we are happy our facility has witnessed a lot of progress since KECHEMA intervened. We are able to put it in good shape. The various areas of the facility that needed repairs have been fixed. We always have drugs for patients, we repair our labour room, we fixed water and we buy oil regularly to keep the generator working.
Though some people want us to mismanaged and shared the money given to us to work with but we insisted it must be used for its purpose. We are glad people are appreciative of KECHEMA's efforts for given them free drugs, free laboratory investigation and treatment.
On her own, Mariam Yusuf who is in charge of the Kamba MCH said before now the facility had no drugs and could not provide many other services to the patients who come there. "But since the intervention we have been having drugs regularly. We bought equipment for the laboratory, renovated the toilets and fixed water for the benefits of our patients. And we have done several referrals for patients".
The WDC of the PHC in Bunza area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji (Dangaladima Bunza) while giving testimony to the success of the program in his community said it was doing well beyond expectation. "We have recorded more progress this year. We hold regular meetings on how to increase numbers of beneficiaries to enjoy the free medical services by KECHEMA", he said.
At the Zuru primary healthcare center, the in charge, Fatima Yahaya while taking journalists to see the level of works on the new wards under construction courtesy of KECHEMAs intervention said no fewer than 2,120 vulnerable were enrolled at the facility and 2,116 are already benefitting from the program. She stated that before now those who cannot afford hospital bills were suffering at home but today the situation has changed.
This program has recorded huge success. When it was introduced people did not take it seriously they thought it was politically motivated. But now they have seen it's usefulness, everybody now wants to enjoy the free treatment and free drugs, Imurana Yusuf, WDC of Zuru PHC said.
