KECHEMA SUPPORTS OVER 130 HEALTHCARE FACILITIES WITH FREE DRUGS AND MEDICAL COMMODITIES TO CUSHION THE EFFECT OF INFLATION AND HIGH TURN-OVER OF ENROLLEES.

The Management of Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) has supported over One Hundred and Thirty Healthcare Facilities with free Drugs and Medical Commodities in order to cushion the effect of high cost of drugs in the market.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr Jafar Augie Muhammad made this known while briefing Newsmen on the development in Birnin Kebbi.
Dr Jafar said the intervention was carried out by the Agency in collaboration with the state branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria considering their professionalism in identifying quality and genuine drugs for the people.
The Executive Secretary said the idea of the intervention was necessitated following the fact finding Media Tour by the independent Journalists who discovered the problem of outof stock caused by inflation and high turn-over of Enrollees at the Health facilities.
Dr Jafar noted that the intervention is not going to be the last of it kind explaining that whenever the need arises the Agency will look at the possibility of doing same gesture as a way of sustaining the programme pending the operationalization of the State Drug Revolving Fund under Drug Medical and Consumable Management Agency (DMCMA).
The Executive Secretary used the medium and informed the facility Managers that the Drugs supplied are meant for the Enrollees while warning them to ensure proper utilization of the items for the purpose meant for.
Dr Jafar however called on the facility Managers to do more towards mobilizing their communities to join the Contributory Health Scheme so that they can get more Capitation payment from the Agency that will make the facility viable.
Also Speaking, the State Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Pharmacist Atiku Bala Wala who described the intervention as the first of it kind said it will go along way to cushion inflation.
Pharmacist Atiku said the Association selected eighteen vendors who have the license and registered with pharmaceutical council of Nigeria for the purchase and supply of Drugs and Medical Commodities to all the Facilities.
The Chairman expressed appreciation that the inspection Team testified that the Drugs procured reach the facilities while appealing to facility Managers to ensure proper storage and utilization of the items.
Pharmacist Atiku thanked KECHEMA for considering the challenges of the facilities which occured as a result as a result of the high increase in the price of drugs.
